Heat-resistant epoxy repair composite for rebuilding equipment damaged by erosion and corrosion.

Belzona 1511 (Super HT-Metal)

Heat-resistant epoxy repair composite for rebuilding equipment damaged by erosion and corrosion.
Description

A 2-part epoxy paste based on a solvent-free epoxy resin reinforced silicon with steel alloy. This high-temperature repair composite is designed for metal repair and rebuilding equipment and provides excellent corrosion protection. Under immersion Belzona 1511 (Super HT-Metal) is suitable for applications up to 160°C (320°F). This product can be overcoated with Belzona high-temperature epoxy coating without the need for frost blasting, significantly reducing application costs and downtime.

Belzona 1511 (Super HT-Metal) will not corrode and resist a wide range of chemicals. This repair material can be easily mixed and applied without the need for specialist tools and when cured is durable yet fully machinable.

  • No frost blasting is needed prior to overcoating with Belzona high-temperature linings
  • Excellent erosion and corrosion protection
  • Operates at high temperatures and resists a wide range of chemicals
  • Can be easily mixed and applied at up to 12 mm thickness enabling to fill even deeper pitting in one application
  • No shrinkage, expansion, or distortion
  • Reduced health and safety risks as it is solvent-free
  • Excellent adhesion to many metal surfaces including steel, stainless steel, specialist steels
  • Outstanding mechanical properties
  • High-temperature composite repairs for process vessels, distillation columns, heat exchangers, clarifiers, and scrubber units
  • Repairs of cracks and holes on the engine and pump casings, pipes, tanks, and other equipment
  • Resurface of corroded metal surfaces

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

To repair corroded metal with the heat resistant epoxy, Belzona 1511 (Super HT-Metal), only apply the epoxy to clean, firm, dry, and well-roughened surfaces. To achieve this, firstly clear away any loose contamination and use Belzona 9111 (Cleaner/Degreaser) to clean and degrease the surface. Following this, roughen the surface by blast cleaning, deeply scoring, or grinding. Degrease the surface again, allowing the surface to dry before combining the reactive components. To do this, transfer the entire amount of Base and Solidifier components onto the Belzona Working Surface. Mix thoroughly to achieve a uniform material free of any streakiness. Next, apply the Belzona 1511 (Super HT-Metal) directly onto the prepared surface with the plastic applicator or spatula provided. Finally, mixing tools should be cleaned immediately after use with Belzona 9111 or any other effective solvent e.g., Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK). Application tools should be cleaned with Belzona 9121, MEK, or cellulose thinners.   For more information, read the Instructions for Use (IFU): Belzona 1511
The cure time of the high-temperature epoxy repair composite, Belzona 1511 (Super HT-Metal) varies on the ambient temperature condition. The cure time is as follows:
Temperature Ligh loading Full thermal or mechanical loading Immersion in chemicals
50°F/ 10°C 72 hours Post-cure required Post-cure required
68°F/ 20°C 18 hours 30 hours Post-cure required
86°F/ 30°C 5 hours 24 hours 60 hours
104°F/ 40°C 4 hours 6 hours 8 hours
Allow Belzona 1511 (Super HT-Metal) to cure at ambient temperature for at least 1 hour at 122°F/ 50°C. However, the temperature should not be increased by more than 55°F/ 30°C per hour. For more information, see the Instructions for Use (IFU): Belzona 1511
The temperature limit of the 2-part epoxy, Belzona 1511 (Super HT-Metal), is as follows:
Cure Temperature Heat Distortion Temperature Glass Transition Temperature Tg
68°F/ 20°C 127°F/ 53°C 129°F/ 54°C
212°F/ 100°C 268°F/ 131°C 277°F/ 136°C
284°F/ 140°C 333°F/ 167°C
320°F/ 160°C 356°F/ 180°C 356°F/ 180°C
HDT determined in accordance with ASTM D648. The Dry Heat Resistance of Belzona 1511 (Super HT-Metal) is 410°F/ 210°C. For more information, see the Product Specification Sheet (PSS): Belzona 1511
