Belzona 1523

Spray-applied, heat-resistant epoxy coating for internal lining of equipment operating under continuous immersion conditions.
Description

A spray-applied, 2-part epoxy coating designed to provide long-term chemical and corrosion protection to equipment operating in continuous immersion at temperatures up to 140°C (284°F). This solvent-free, high-temperature coating has a long overcoat window and its cold curing mechanism with full-in-service cure reduces downtime and ensures a rapid return of equipment to service.

Belzona 1523 epoxy coating is easy to mix and apply using heated airless spray equipment, allowing large areas to be quickly and effectively protected. Belzona 1523 high-temperature epoxy coating – belongs to the High Temperature Metals Belzona products included on the Series 1000.

  • Outstanding corrosion protection of high-temperature equipment, suitable for continuous immersion in water and hydrocarbon mixtures up to 140°C (284°F)
  • Excellent chemical resistance against a wide range of chemicals including hydrocarbons and amines
  • 2-coat application without the need for flash blasting between coats
  • Very light colors allow easy inspection in dark vessels
  • Coating applied by heated airless spray for quick application
  • Application and cure at room temperature – no hot work involved
  • Solvent-free material allowing it to be safely applied in confined areas
  • Reduces downtime due to its innovative post-cure mechanism activated at service temperatures – no separate post-cure needed
  • Withstands steam-out process up to 210°C (410°F) and rapid depressurization
  • Excellent adhesion to metal surfaces and high retention of adhesion at elevated temperatures
  • High-performance coating for oil and gas production equipment such as separators, flare knock-out vessels, and evaporators operating under immersion
  • Corrosion protection against a variety of chemicals in high-temperature equipment including boiler vessels, condensers, and heat exchangers

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

The cure time of the high-temperature epoxy coating, Belzona 1523 varies on the ambient temperature condition. The cure time is as follows:
Ambient temperature Time until inspection Time until full service Time until post-cure (if required)
Dry Wet
50°F/ 10°C 45 hours 7 days 45 hours 85 hours
68°F/ 20°C 11 hours 25 hours 11 hours 18 hours
86°F/ 30°C 7 hours 14 hours 7 hours 10 hours
104°F/ 40°C 4 hours 9 hours 4 hours 6 hours
Post-cure will generally be unnecessary as the coating will cure sufficiently at ambient temperature; however, post-cure is possible if desired for a quicker return to service. The coating should be heated between 122°F/ 50°C and 212°F/ 100°C for a minimum of 1 hour. For more information, see the Instructions for Use (IFU): Belzona 1523
