Belzona 1812 (Ceramic Carbide FP)

An abrasion-resistant, 2-part epoxy material for the repair and lining of metal surfaces subject to abrasive attack from fine particles.
Description

A ceramic polymer epoxy repair material incorporating abrasion-resistant ceramic aggregates for the repair and protection of metal surfaces suffering from abrasion caused by fine particles. Belzona 1812 (Ceramic Carbide FP) resists deformation damage and wear providing long-term abrasion resistance.

This highly durable composite material will bond to a variety of substrates providing a seamless lining coupled with excellent abrasion and wear resistance to fine abrasive materials. Belzona 1812 (Ceramic Carbide FP) will not corrode and is resistant to a wide range of chemicals. It can be applied without the need for specialist tools to unlimited thickness onto surfaces up to a dry temperature of 150°C (300°F).

Alternatively, where problems due to coarse particle abrasion occur, Belzona 1811 (Ceramic Carbide) has been developed.

Belzona 1812 – belongs to the Abrasion Resistant Metals – Belzona products included on the Series 1000.

  • High abrasion and wear resistance
  • Will not corrode
  • Solvent-free allowing it to be applied safely in confined areas
  • Excellent bonding to many metal surfaces including steel and cast iron
  • Application and cure at room temperature – no hot work involved
  • Long working life
  • Fast cure rate ensures a prompt return to service
  • High mechanical strength
  • Protection of pipework, pipe bends, elbows, and valves from damage due to abrasive attack
  • Bonding and grouting tiles and wear plates where high abrasion resistance is required
  • Repair of screw conveyors, centrifuges, and pump impellers damaged by erosion and corrosion

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

The cure time for abrasion resistant, 2-part epoxy, Belzona 1812 (Ceramic Carbide FP) varies depending on the ambient conditions and will be reduced for thicker sections and extended for thinner sections. The cure time is as follows:
Temperature Movement or use involving no loading or immersion Machining and/ or light loading Full mechanical or thermal loading Immersion in chemicals
41°F/ 5°C 18 hours 24 hours 7 days 14 days
50°F/ 10°C 8 hours 12 hours 5 days 10 days
59°F/ 15°C 6 hours 9 hours 4 days 7 days
68°F/ 20°C 4 hours 6 hours 3 days 5 days
77°F/ 25°C 3 hours 4 hours 2 days 3 days
86°F/ 30°C 2 hours 3 hours 1 ½ days 2 days
These times are for a thickness of approximately 0.25 in/ 6mm. Post-curing is possible for improved properties. Once Belzona 1812 (Ceramic Carbide FP) has reached ‘machining and/ or light loading’ level, it can be post-cured at a temperature between 122°F/ 50°C and 212°F/ 100°C for a minimum of 1-2 hours. Overcoating is possible and should be applied as soon as possible after the first layer and certainly while the first layer is still soft (less than 3 hours at 68°F/ 20°C).
